About Alexa
Born and raised in the fairfax area of Virginia, Alexa has always had a profound love for the sciences. She realized she would become a neuroscience major after becoming fascinated with the nervous system chapter in a high school anatomy class her junior year. In college, she joined Alpha Phi Fraternity, with a philanthropy that emphasizes women's heart health. Alexa decided to explore the field of neuroscience research her junior year, only to discover that she wanted to make a career out of it. She is currently the project lead on a bench that tests betta fish behavior and won an honors summer stipend to test rodents. As a senior, she plans on attending graduate school in fall 2017 with hopes to continue her research path, eventually earning a Ph.D. Alexa intends to pursue a career in biomedical research on brain tumors with a focus on glioblastomas. She hopes to contribute to research and work toward finding a cure or improved treatment for glioblastomas to extend the lives of tumor victims.
